Masterson’s Tavern , positioned in the vibrant core of Moonee Ponds, advertises itself as a stylish, alternative venue , but my recent visit at this establishment resulted in an experience I’d rather forget . While the bar may present a friendly façade, what I encountered behind its walls was disturbing and far below any standard .

From the moment I entered , it was clear that upkeep was not a priority at this bar . The ground was covered in grime , and a foul smell of stale beer and uncleaned toilets filled the entire pub. With a smell of a mixture of human waste, decay and illness . The serving zone , which should be the centerpiece of any pub, was overflowing with soiled cups and litter that looked like it had accumulated over weeks. The lavatory was in even a more revolting state —overflowing , with a broken handle and surfaces marked in what I can only assume was human waste .
